He is a vampire that has ambitions to rule Makai, but was defeated at the hands of Belial Aensland when he challenged his throne. This defeat exiled him and his entire castle into the human world of Romania, where he rested for 100 years to recover his power. His castle would only appear during a full moon, which prompted rumors of treasure from prospective hunters that would wander into the castle recklessly, only to die by Demitri's hand. It was during this time that he learned that the blood of humans, specifically that of virgin maidens, were the finest. Currently, 40 people who've had their blood sucked and their souls corrupted with evil tend to him in his castle as loyal undead servants. Belial died during his absence from Makai, prompting a shift of his rivalry and focus to defeating Morrigan Aensland when he returned.
