The nicest available accommodation on Shinkansen trains. Gran class seating is found on E5/H5 trains used on Hayabusa, Hayate, Yamabiko, and Nasuno services on the Tohoku and Hokkaido Shinkansen, and E7/W7 trains used on Kagayaki, Hakutaka, Tsurugi, Asama, Toki, and Tanigawa services on the Joetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen. Seating is in a 2+1 configuration, with the legroom, seat width, and recline being greater than that of the green car seen on all other Shinkansen routes. The seats are cream leather with a white headrest, and feature power adjustability, a fold-up leg rest, and a reading light. The gran class cabin has only 18 seats and is located in either the first or last car of the train, that being car 10 of E5/H5, and car 12 of E7/W7 trains. In addition to luxurious seating, complimentary food and drinks, and hostess services are also included.
