heavy barrel

Heavy Barrel (ヘビー・バレル Hebī Bareru) is a 1987 overhead shooting arcade video game by Data East. The game is set in the near future when two lone special unit commandos try to infiltrate a secret nuclear missile complex that was captured by hi-tech enemy paramilitary forces.

The name of the game comes from an in-game super weapon. The "Heavy Barrel" is a very powerful high-energy portable plasma cannon capable of destroying any enemy in the game with a single shot. The weapon has a wide arc of fire and can be fired as fast as the player's trigger finger permits, but after thirty seconds its use is exhausted, at which point the bearer reverts to his previous weaponry. It can be found scattered in six pieces hidden among random power-up containers during the game.

Heavy Barrel was ported to the Apple II Pc and DOS in 1989. The NES and Famicom versions were developed by Sakata SAS and published by Data East in North America and Japan in 1990. In February 2010, Majesco Entertainment released a port of Heavy Barrel for the Nintendo Wii as part of the "Data East Arcade Classics" disc.
