help:artist commentary

The artist commentary fields are used to capture any additional information the artist has provided, namely the title and caption of the work.

Adding the commentary

Commentaries are added automatically on upload for most sites, as long as you paste a link to the source on the upload page rather than uploading a file from your computer. For unsupported sites, it will have to be copied over manually.

You can add or edit the commentary by clicking the Add commentary link in the post sidebar. A dialog with four fields will appear. Original title and Original description should have the artist's original commentary, regardless of the language it's in. The translation should go in Translated title and Translated description.

The Fetch button can be used to refetch the commentary from a source link, or to copy it from an existing Danbooru post.

Commentaries from multiple sources

Often, an artist will post the same picture at multiple sources, using a different commentary for each source. In those cases, simply paste the source link of the new commentary in the Copy from field, and click Fetch, then add the multi-source commentary tag to the post.

See post #10464054 for an example of this in action.

Translating the artist's commentary

Translations of the commentary can be placed in the Translated title and Translated description fields in the Add artist commentary dialog.

The post should be tagged commentary if the commentary has been fully translated, or commentary request if it's not fully translated. If the commentary has been only partially translated, it should be tagged partial commentary instead. If you are unsure of the translation, add the check commentary tag. The language should also be tagged with a *_commentary tag if the commentary is not in Japanese.

If the commentary is in English and doesn't require translation, it should be tagged english commentary and commentary.

Commentary formatting

See help:dtext for help with formatting commentary. Note that DText does not work in commentary titles, only the description.

See howto:translate and howto:romanize for further policies on translations.
