One of the main protagonists of Choujikuu Yousai Macross TV series, the Macross: Do You Remember Love? movie adaptation and the Macross Flashback 2012 OVA.
Ichijo Hikaru is a young fan racer civilian aircraft pilot who becomes an atypical mecha anime science fiction hero in the Macross series.
Despite some early personality clashes with other characters and some family tragedies from his past, he is a rather humble, intelligent, optimistic and jovial person, in contrast to the usually hot-headed, reckless and grim type of heroes from other mecha series.
Hikaru is of Japanese ethnicity and also Roy Focker's best friend. Hikaru's mecha of choice are the VF-1J, the VF-1J Armored, the VF-1S, the VF-1 Super, the VF-1 Strike (DYRL) and the VF-4 (Flashback 2012).
In the Robotech western cartoon adaptation his name was changed to Rick Hunter and his ethnicity to American.
