letterboxed

A technique where horizontal bars are displayed at the top and bottom of the picture. This can be done to give the image a cinematic look, or to make it fit a certain aspect ratio.

Letterboxed does not count as a border, but outside border may be used with it.

See pillarboxed for when an image has bars on the left and right sides.
