An undead sorcerer often with a skeletal or cadaverous appearance. A staple of the sword-and-sorcery genre of fantasy fiction.
Unlike mindless zombies, liches tend to be highly intelligent and are capable of using magic. They are frequently clad in armor or fine clothing reminiscent of wizards or kings.
They achieve a measure of immortality by storing their soul in a soul jar resp. phylactery.
