An open-bolt submachine gun which was designed by Pierre Monteil and manufactured Manufacture Nationale d'Armes de Tulle (MAT) for use by the French Army, first produced in 1949. The weapon features a foldable magazine well, a tubular barrel shroud and a retractable wire stock. The MAT-49/54 variant has a fixed wooden one.
