Muhammad (مُحَمَّد) (c. 570 – 8 June 632 CE) was an Arab religious and political leader and the founder of modern-day Islam. He is believed to be the Seal of the Prophets (the last messenger, the 25th prophet) in Islam. Along with the Quran, his teachings (Sunnah) and normative examples form the basis for Islamic religious belief.
While the Quran does not explicitly ban depictions of Muhammad, the practice is widely discouraged and considered offensive by many Muslims due to interpretations of the Hadith and concerns about idolatry, akin to the austere aniconism of the Reformed tradition of Christianity. Some groups which do not discourage depictions of Muhammad include the Iranian Shia.
