newtype flash

A visual effect across the Gundam franchise, typically a flash, glow, or flicker of electricity, that appears near a character's head when they sense something.

It represents the telepathic powers of newtype humans, who are the next step in human evolution generated by space colonization. It is a brief but strong surge of newtype power that usually warns the person about danger, something helpful, an ally, or someone in need.

It is sometimes parodied outside of Gundam to represent a sudden shock or realization by a character.

The stock sound effect used for the Newtype Flash is based off the flexatone instrument.
