The naval warfare service branch of the People's Liberation Army.
Up until the early 2000s, the PLAN is mainly a coastal defense force with antique equipment. It underwent massive overhaul and modernization of equipment and training since 2008 and later became the second largest navy in the world, after the United States Navy.
