pregnancy mark

ライフマーク

A tattoo of sorts on the stomach used to count how many times a character got pregnant/how many children that character had.

Usually more tattoos are added the more children one has, similar to a tally.

The symbol is often a heart or child icon, but sometimes the number of persons or details are written directly in text.

When a child has died due to miscarriage, abortion, etc., a heart break symbol or a child icon with a diagonal line is often used.

When the purpose is to abort a child from the beginning, it is called an “abortion mark” and is distinguished from a “pregnancy mark”.
