The AEUG's first original space combat "second generation" mobile suit design, taking in traditional aspects of Zeon MSs (the Rick Dom mostly) and pioneering new solutions such as the 360 degree monitors and the ejectable head-mounted cockpit. It was developed and produced by Anaheim Electronics.
A red unit was initially piloted by Quattro Bajeena, which sparked the fear of The Red Comet of old in the Titans; once the AEUG became aware of this, all subsequent Rick Dias units moved on from the old black and grey (resembling the Dom) to the new red, so as to capitalize on the psychological impact of the color.
Other notable AEUG Rick Dias pilots include Quattro's loyal wingmen: Apolly Bay and Roberto; Amuro Ray, who piloted a red unit when he joined the Karaba/AEUG alliance; and Asuna Elmarit, Ecole du Ciel's main protagonist, who piloted a white unit as her first personal MS when she joined the AEUG.
After The Gryps War some red colored Schuzrum Dias variants were used by Neo Zeon during The First Neo Zeon War.
