shawl
A long piece of cloth, either square, rectangular, or triangular, used to drape over the upper part of the body, usually at the shoulders. May optionally be fastened together at the front with a brooch or similar item.
Not to be confused with a sash, which is a ribbon or band that wraps around the body.
