An epic American space opera franchise created by filmmaker George Lucas, originally produced by Lucasfilm, before Disney later acquired the rights in 2012. It is a science-fiction and fantasy story set in a past, faraway galaxy, chronicling the galactic-scale conflict between the benevolent Jedi and the evil Sith faction.

The Star Wars saga has had a significant impact on popular culture; it is one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time. Because of its worldwide success in the late 1970s, several Japanese anime and manga from that era were heavily inspired by it.
