sweet home alabama

Sweet Home Alabama is a 1974 Rock song by Southern Rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. The song was created by the band in response to Canadian singer Neil Young's Civil Rights songs like "Southern Man" that criticize the American South in their role of slavery of Black people in the US and racism and violence against Blacks during the Civil Rights era.

While the song defends the South and the people of the State of Alabama, the song has been criticized for supporting Alabama Governor George Wallace, who was a pro-segregationist and was against the Civil Rights movement during the 1960s.

In memes, the song is used jokingly about incest due to stereotypes of rural Southerners who frequently married within the family especially amongst cousins, especially Alabama, which have passed laws that ban abortion, even if the pregnancy was the result of incest.
