Directional

backlighting: Light comes from behind the subject making a luminous contour
overlighting: Light comes from above usually making the face and torso shaded in contrast
underlighting: Light comes from below, typically to create a ominous effect

Types

bloom: Bright areas that blur with surrounding areas
spotlight: A cone-shaped light from above on a target
Light through gaps
crack of light: A small amount of light in a dark scene, usually from opening a door to a dark room
Light through objects
caustics: Light patterns on a surface formed by light traveling through a transparent material
refraction: Changing the angle of light when it passes through an object
