Any window with resemblance of a command-line interpreter or shell. For the sake of convenience and user-friendliness the strict meaning of a software terminal, as in 'terminal emulator', does not have to be applied rigorously. As a result it is possible to label 'cmd.exe' and others as 'terminal' without technical conundrums
