uss arizona (bb-39)
The USS Arizona (BB-39) was the second and last of the Pennsylvania-class battleships built for the United States Navy. The ship was laid down in 1914 and commissioned two years later in 1916.
Arizona is infamously known as one of only two battleships permanently lost to the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941, and the only one that was completely destroyed. While the other damaged vessels were able to be recovered after the attack, Arizona suffered a magazine detonation that blew the ship's bow apart, giving Arizona the dubious distinction of having suffered the highest loss of life from a single vessel in the U.S. Navy's history. After the war, the USS Arizona Memorial was built over its wreck.
This tag is for depictions of the ship itself, as well as personifications outside of established franchises.
