uss missouri (bb-63)
USS Missouri (BB-63) is the third of the four Iowa-class battleships built for the United States Navy. First commissioned in 1944, it earned eleven battle stars for combat service in the Pacific Theater of World War II, the Korean War, and the First Gulf War. The vessel was decommissioned for the last time in 1992, and in 1999 Missouri became the first of the Iowa-class to be open as a museum ship in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, right beside the USS Arizona Memorial.
Missouri is famously known as the site of the signing of the instrument of surrender of the Empire of Japan to mark the official end of World War II on September 2, 1945. In addition, the vessel has had a starring role in the 1992 movie Under Siege (though actual filming was done aboard USS Alabama (BB-60)), and the 2012 movie Battleship.
