villager (animal crossing)
The player character and the only human character in the Animal Crossing franchise. May be either male or female. Initially sported hats (horned for males, pointed for females), but have since become progressively customizable.
A male villager with default features debuted as a fighter in the Super Smash Bros. games for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Due to his series-standard equipment (shovel, butterfly net, axe) and static, unmoving expression, he has been jokingly characterized as a psychopath in fan media.
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the player character is known as the Mayor.
