I was just thinking that a katana is traditionally single-edged, and so the girl here might merely be "wiping" instead of "cutting." Can anyone corroborate or refute?

I've seen plenty of people wipe blood off of swords in that manner in the more "showy" animes. I prefer seeing the traditional "flick" myself, but that doesn't make as nice of a mess.
