She's probably just weak to books on magic since she lives in a Buddhist Temple she would at least be able to read the mantras.

To be fair to Kyouko that is a grimoire. She would need to be fluent in Latin, or Enochian. And depending on the writer there may be a cypher on top of that. So she really didn't have much hope in grasping it.
