13 yen?

Is that going by now standards or is it another form? I'm not too sure about this currency.

Someone in other post mentioned that an officer cadet is paid 670 Yen annually and sailors are much lower than that.

On amusing note, recently in Facebook someone compared the local price of gasoline to gold against two decades ago (in attempt to shut the protest about gasoline price increase).
Apparently in that two decades, our local currency here has lost more than 95% of its value (relative to gold).

If we're going by our series theme, we may not be able to determine how much 13 yen is actually worth. The value of 13yen 50sen just before WWII would be about $3, during the inflationary period of the war and reconstruction period the value is not recorded, and after 1949 the value of the yen was set at ¥360 for US$1.

Given how Ushio here is talking about a hot springs trip, I think the salary they get here is a big deal despite not seeming to be a lot to us.

This one's a year-end bonus after all.

I think that Ushio should get the coat, it could last her decades if she's near full size already and isn't overly sporty in the winter. A hot springs trip is one-off-and-done, so stinginess says the coat is much, much better in total utility provided over time, discounted present value of course.
