This is actually my first time ever witnessing a senshi transformation from the original anime with the original music.
I'm stuck in a bit of a hell because I want to watch it, especially in its original Japanese glory (the westernized version was pretty heavily butchered), but it's so Monster of the Day that I can never get all the way through it and it puts me off for long enough that I forget what was going on and thus have to start over in an endless loop. Plus for the longest time the copy I had had a constant horrid VHS squeal in the audio...

You and me, my friend. I feel ashamed to miss out on such a classic, but for several reasons I just can't bring myself to ever fully watch it.
Crystal was also the chance to spark my interest in the franchise, but that one turned out even duller than the original.

The original Japanese versions with high-quality fan subs are available. Picture total remastered as well. Looks great. I actually thought the same myself about the monster of the day thing, but I found Season 1 at least to be so much more than that. All the side characters introduced with their sub plots were really interesting, and it was even more fun to see how Sailor Moon accomplished things back in the day before all the Sailor Scouts came together. I will never forget the car chase episode where Sailor Moon is pursuing a bat monster inside a speeding vehicle... you would never see that in later seasons.
