I was always curious if the Sith would ever try to develop a weapon or tool for their minions that could deflect a lightsaber or stop a jedi from using the force in combat. I imagined in the past that they should equip new followers with some kind of energy-proof mace or battle staff after the raid on the death star so soldiers would at least stand a chance against jedi in the future.
I suppose if the old republic games were accepted as any level of canon, weapons for fighting jedi already existed, but they were forgotten along with the rest of the jedi order.

Any weapon that can project a magnetic field can deflect a lightsaber, since it's a plasma arc caught in a magnetic field. They were around in the Clone wars, so they're not a new concept. In fact, they're probably older then this republic/empire cycle.
