Hey, he's just one hell of a general you know? Leading an army of basically almost nothing to become an army famous of defeating both France and America is just can't be ignored.

The hat doesn't look accurate though
It will be better if it's a rice hat

A bit late, but he was called the 'Red Napoleon' or something of the sort- I suppose the hat's a reference to that.

It's a dark page for Vietnamese history, really. It was because a king of Nguyen dynasty in Vietnam literally raped every fine looking woman he saw on the street, right on spot with temporary shack to give them some privacy. Funny that his son, the one to become next king, turned out to be afraid of day light.

It comes from a habit of adopting the ruling dynasty's surname to show your favor to them. Basically happened when the preceding dynasty gets overthrown and had their names changed to avoid getting persecuted. The Nguyen Dynasty happened to be the most recent and last dynasty so that's why it's so common.

the surname you're thinking about is "Nguyễn" while the one in General Giap's name is "Nguyên" and it's just purely a middle name

    For Elise
    Sun Tzu
    "Bushes" military school
    Operation Dien Bien Phu
Illustration: A-shi During his youth, Vo Nguyen Giap has already had some experience being a history teacher. While he was called "The Red Napoleon" due to his cunning strategic command, all of his military knowledge were either self-taught or came from live combat experience. "The military academy of the bush", as how he said it. On the other hand, he is also a man of culture, with interest in music and reading. He started learning the piano during the Vietnam war, and has gotten to the point where he can play "Für Elise" (For Elise). And thus, in this illustration, I drew a female teacher-like Vo Nguyen Giap standing on the classroom platform, with a bicorne in hand for the Napoleon image. On the upper left of the blackboard is the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, below that is the image of her when she was studying military history in the bushes.
