SMGs like her, MP38, are dodge-based tanks; they have decent HP but rely on dodge bonuses provided by exoskeletons to actually tank. Before you have shotguns, who are armor-based tanks, they will be your frontline tankers.

Machineguns have decent HP (generally third after shotguns and SMGs) but are not tanks at all, specializing in DPS. They have high damage and fire rate, punctuated by long reload times.

So yeah, it seems MP38 here has already ran out of luck but her heavy machine gun comrades are too focused on their job to cover her spot.
