It's not like they're trying to say this is normal. It's only possible because Ri-class was willing to take a direct hit in order to get inside of AD-Hime's defenses and unload on her at point-blank range. Also, it could be that Abyssal's defenses have adapted specifically to protect them from Kanmusu weaponry, and might therefor be more vulnerable to an attack from one of their own kind- which most of them have no experience in dealing with.
Now that you mentioned it. Ancient Destroyer Hime also fail to take down Tenryuu despise of shooting her from behind, so she must be one of those weak ones, who follow the only might be strong one in a group.
