Seems like this artist is an Kancolle fan. Even making original designs. I love to think that Tanaka gave this artist a chance to join officially the team.

nice. has that old school character design vibe. the eyes especially. CLAMP like.

Not to mention she looks like she came from a retro console game, and that she's slightly stretched horizontally due to resolution changes or something.

Considering he was likely invited precisely because of those illustrations, it doesn't really qualify.
