    you mean you never saw possessed Satoshi before seeing this pic? I mean he does actually appear in the anime... though the Niconico users made him much creepier (read: better ^^) by actually using Rica's voice (courtesy of sound clips from her Bakura role in Yu-gi-oh!).

    Does anyone else notice the logic failure in this argument? I understand that japan has it's own cultural environment, but god dammit, just because it's japanese doesn't mean it's completely different; the difference between "Meme" and "fad" here is only a name and the context of the cultures making them; they are socially mechanically identical. Walking is walking wherever you go, it doesn't matter if it's walk or　歩く(aruku, japanese for walk) don't act like all because something's japanese it's completely different from everywhere else. There are some things unique to japan, like miko for example; but they're humans from earth, not aliens, they can't be that different.

    The "Meme" concept is more cerebral, being based on the theories of Richard Dawkins and all. So this lends it an air of being more intellectual than "Fads" would - at least that's my take on it.

    Actually, a meme is any single "unit" of culture, any notion, concept, idea that provokes a certain behavior, carries ideas, symbols, and can be spread from mind to mind via speech or writing, or even observation. As such, you'd be surprised at what memes you're surrounded by: religion, for one, is an idea that carries highly specific behaviors, and is arguably the most successful meme in existence.

    Bob Ross, on the other hand, becomes a meme when you hear his name, and immediately think some of the following: "Painting with Bob Ross", "happy trees", you picture his face, his voice, his movements as he paints on his show, etc. Since his name now carries an idea itself, it has become a meme, however insignificant its effect may be on humanity as a whole.
