It's referencing the fact that M4's namesake gun, when showed, is unrecognizable to the actual design of her firearm, to the point where it might as well be stripped to the base of a scabbard.

Under the implication that the trigger shoots the sword out then yes.
Looking at hpw it's constructed, the firing mechanism actually activates a resettable piston to the side of the blade that impacts the blade guard to brute force the sword out of the scabbard. It doesn't make logical sense or works with physics, but is cool.
