Right, episode 3 has not happened yet. Neither a truly tragic event on the previous to last episode for the season before everything stays more or less the same as the first episode. Anime today is just like any Pixar movie: same tropes, different characters.

Well... Given this has been a nearly 10 years old game, the official Anime interpretation is also just one of the possible interpretations, even among official works.
Besides, the first season showed Akagi using an instant repair material bucket as soon as episode 2. Whether the 2 seasons are the same continuity or not, everything are still open for interpretations so far.
