It's hard to make Wally look badass, so he's not really qualified for this particular work. He's still a cool guy in my book, though.

It's a lot easier to make Pit a badass because he already has the attitude and personality for it. Wally is not cut out to be a fighter. He's a sensitive little boy.

Pit has become somewhat of a badass in Brawl. Yes, I consider Brawl canon.

Besides, Daigo is so much cooler, and so much more appropriate here. I guess it would have been cool if he had put in a badass version of Wally instead, but I'm still happy with Daigo there.

They should have gone with Ruby Vs. Sapphire but at the very end add a twist with Blue Vs. Crystal...

All The Trainers are at a disadvantage against their Rivals, expect for Ruby against Daigo. Ground owns Steel and Rock.
