Possibly just trying to add more variety, and he may think it fits her more.
That said, I've begun to really enjoy how this author draws eyes. In most cases a majorly black eye would look rather empty, but he makes it look more cute than anything. Although Mokou has the best eyes in this series hands down.

Flandre was never locked anywhere. She was simply ordered by Remilia not to leave the mansion, which Flandre heeds out of respect for her older sister even though she is far more powerful. She doesn't feel any resentment or anything, but really likes Remilia.
