"Handle the reception" is probably not quite right, based on this description of what a 受付係 does, but I'm not sure what an analogous position in a western wedding would be.

No... more like a receptionist that handles the gifts and benefits received, and giving out tables and name tags.

It's actually both... when we speak of a wedding reception in the East, it's mostly about the party/function after the wedding.
