That's because it's not a Mauser. According to the top-right of the picture, it's a Karabiner 98.

Edit: Never mind. The Kar 98 IS a Mauser. You learn something every day.

The bolt is forward yet a shell is ejecting. That's what's awkward about it. The bolt should be back with the lever up for a shell to eject.

It's almost as if she's racking it straight back like you would a semi-auto or full-auto. Which would be wrong for a bolt action rifle.

This is quite really REALLY late but that is actually how the K98's bolt works. When the bolt is forwarded it points downwards. This feature is good for fast rate of fire.
