[REJECTED] Tag alias: record -> phonograph_record

Posted under Tags

tag alias #16268 record -> phonograph_record has been rejected.

Reason: Admittedly there isn't a lot of naming conflict here on Danbooru (tag search: *record*), however there is enough disambiguity in the English language to warrant an alias (Wikipedia: Record).

EDIT: This tag alias is pending automatic rejection in 5 days.

In addition to the fact that no one really refers to them as phonograph records, phonograph record also refers to cylindrical records so I can't recommend it.

I think something like music_record or record_disc or record_(object) or vinyl_record would be better.

I could swing for something like music record or record disc maybe, but vinyl record is a misnomer since they don't have to be made of vinyl, and record (object) is a bad name because some of us dinosaurs remember having something called paper records.

Of those two, I think record disc would be best since

1. It describes the shape of the thing the tagger is seeing
2. I remembered that records aren't solely for music, so music record isn't always correct (not sure that'd it ever come up in a picture but)

Though, I've also noticed that record player is aliased to phonograph, so maybe if you're going for consistency then you could go with phonograph record anyway.

Yeah, that's one of the primary reasons I chose that name. Also, users can just type in "record" with autocomplete in order for the new tag to popup, regardless of the name chosen.
