Maybe Albert felt impatient about all these endless discussions about the problem and believed that this change was necessary in order to help maintain the quality on Danbooru. While I do believe it would have been better if he had discussed this with us before actually making the change, I do have to wonder why everyone is "demanding" him to change ASAP. Isn't it his site to control? Doesn't he have the right in install/uninstall anything he likes?

Endless? That thread has stopped moving several days ago with something remarkably similar to a general consensus. I don't think you've seen endless. And if quality was such a concern, why take something that goes *exactly against* everything that's been proposed in the thread? Surely rushing something made up on the spot is the road to quality.

Yes and no. He has relegated most of the control over the day-to-day administrative tasks to us, and we are the one ultimately in charge of and impacted by any quality control mechanisms. Albert's activity as a moderator is nil, which is not at all surprising given he still uploads so much aside from just keeping the site alive. So while technically he obviously can do anything he wants with the site, it's still not a good idea to ignore completely our wishes when solving an issue brought up by us in the first place.

Okay, so this whole giving contributors the ability to approve/delete/whatever post wasn't his smartest idea, but you have to admit you guy sure tell a good amount of time just to agree on something.

If that's true then have you ever considered limiting the number of posts privileged/contributor could post a day? While this idea might sound drastic and made on the spot (which it was) I think it might cull the number of posts received on this site.
I'm not losing any sleep over lost comments. I will change it so that comments are never actually deleted, but there are just so many users who post 2-3 shitty comments and then never post on the site again. And I don't necessarily think shitty Youtube quality comments are correlated to shitty uploads.
Deleting comments without updating the user record kind of sucks, but I think the amount of rage here is disproportionate to the amount of damage caused.
What I will probably end up doing is create an intermediate level between contributor and janitor, for testing janitors. Applications for test janitors will be liberally accepted but the Recent Approvals page will allow others to more closely monitor them. These test janitors will be seeded with active contributors from this experimental phase. After a month or so if there are no issues they'll be promoted to regular janitor and their approvals will no longer be shown in the Recent Approvals page. Contributors will no longer be able to approve.
I will likely make the approver information public to everyone. I don't think are many reasons to hide this information.
For what it's worth, I'll +1 for that solution, though I'm not sure about the public (to everyone) approver thing.
I guess added transparency will allow for easier public policing of bad weeds, but wasn't the reason the approver info wasn't public in the first place because we wanted to avoid potential dramabombs like "janitor XXX is too biased for dickgirls and approved this POS, meanwhile why was my jawsome scenery pic passed over??!!11" etc etc?

No-one's said that. The problem with removing comments is that it removes evidence of repeatedly bad comments by the worst offenders, which means they won't get banned/neg'd when they should. And that makes comments even more useless than they are with all the more or less legitimate traffic.
Ive seen the difference in approval rate since this has been implemented. Good pictures are being approved at a faster rate than before and the whole moderation process is going a lot faster.
For the people complaining about giving too much power in the hands of contributors I think that that isn't too much of a problem since other contributors can also unapprove things as well and in that case the moderators are the ultimate arbiters of quality.
More eyes = faster system = more people doing quality checks. Great idea IMHO.

Could the staff member who took away my moderation abilities please contact me and explain why? I was taking this very seriously, and I would like to know exactly what I approved that led to this decision so that I can learn from it. I thought I was doing a pretty good job at using my best judgment, the only image I recall which may have been a bad idea would be post #573162...

I think Albert was going to remove contributor approval again in favour of a system for easier appointment of janitors, that may be what happened.

Pssh, albert never tells us what he's up to. I saw on Trac that contributor approvals are apparently being reverted and replaced with a test janitor user level. The names of approvers will now be public. The comment mod queue will also be removed and replaced with a comment voting system. These changes should take effect in a couple hours when the site goes downbooru.
Honestly I thought contributor approvals were working better than expected. Most of the recent approvals seemed decent, and I'm not certain the questionable ones were even due to contributors.
It should take more than one staff member to reapprove unapproved things.
