@grok sort out my tags

Posted under General

the guys over at twitter released an ai waifu. everyone seems to have slightly different ideas for how this stuff should be tagged, so tagging is chaotic.

here's the current situation:

  • there's a character tag for the waifu in question: Ani (xAI).
  • and a copyright tag, Grok (xAI), which i presume is for any and all mentions of grok the ai assistant.
  • and a copyright tag, xAI (Company), which i presume is for any and all mentions of xai, the company responsible for grok.

and here's my modest proposal for resolving this:

  • turn Grok (xAI) into a character tag, to which all the different companions should be implied. since this tag is now for depictions of grok as a character, clean out the grok explain this (meme) posts. they could be moved to xAI (Company), maybe.
  • imply Ani (xAI) to Grok (xAI), as she can be thought of as a costume/alternate personality of grok.
    • the reason i take this route is because it's already been teased that there will be many of these assistant companions. there's even another one already out but i guess nobody's made art of him yet. since under the hood these are all the same ai, i think an implication makes sense.
  • keep xAI (Company) as it is.
    • or alias it to twitter, i don't know.

Turning grok (xai) into a group tag for characters is not how we use character tags. I don't think it makes any sense to treat the companions as if they are Grok itself for the purposes of our tagging system. If there are any depictions of Grok specifically as a character, that should probably get a character tag, but it wouldn't make sense to implicate Ani (xai) or other companions to it.

I'm not sure I see a problem with the current system.

i mentioned how i think of it as more like different personalities (tuned versions) of the same character (ai model), but maybe this analogy only makes sense in my mind and i'm talking nonsense here.

It generally doesn't make a lot of sense to umbrella chartags that look totally different. Implying Abigail Williams (Santa) to Abigail Williams makes sense because that's her in a different dress. Implying bowman to pre-servanthood bowman makes no sense, not just for spoiler reasons but also because those two are fundamentally extremely different looking. Danbooru is a visual site at the end of the day, and if gronk's AI waifus look totally different from each other it doesn't matter if they share a hivemind, they're fundamentally different characters.

xAI_(company) is a pretty bad tag, considering it's just a company. It owns Grok, but it also owns X Corp. (Xitter and Vine_(company) owning company), so it's kind of broad (unless we want an Alphabet Inc. tag and a Meta (facebook) tag?)

Grok has its own website and app, so it could get a copyright tag.

Grok (chatbot) is depicted as a character sometimes so it can get a character tag also.

"Grok Companions" (ani_(xai)) are part of the paid "SuperGrok" on the Grok app.

I would say:

- delete the xAI copyright (overly broad, anything under its tag has as much to do with xAI as anything depicting the X logo in Twitter)

- Make a Grok copyright, as to my knowledge "Ani" is not something on Xitter

- Make character tags as needed for art depicting the chatbot, "Grok Companions", etc. Probably still tag "@grok is this true" with twitter because it's referencing behavior on the social media site rather than the Grok app or website.

I was thinking of making Grok a copyright tag.

ChatGPT and Deepseek are also copytags, with different character tags for their personifications. And we can treat Ani as Grok’s mascot (same for Rudy, Bad Rudy and potentially future companions if they’re ever depicted here), maybe renaming her to something like Ani_(Grok).

In turn, this would make xAI useless, since it’s only tagged on posts covered by X and Grok. Plus, Grok as a copyright could be tagged on posts where it’s not a character but simply a logo.

Now onto the problems.

  • We should probably do something about the artist grok.

But if we really want a tag for the character AND its mentions (which is what Grok is currently being used for)

this is the part that's confusing me. i say look at existing examples for how to handle this, do we tag a character on a post just because they're being mentioned in dialogue but otherwise are not present in the scene? this was annoying to search for, here's my search if you'd like to take a look yourself.

post #7990464, post #7685946, post #9167282, post #8856607, post #8697349 all have mentions of a character, but no chartag. in fact, they only appeared in my search because they have two chartags because they're variants of a character.

by all accounts, i do not think posts that merely make mentions of grok should be tagged with grok the chartag. maybe the copytag at best.
