some suggestions for the spread_legs tag

Posted under Tags

I have a few suggestions for the spread_legs tag. I've started noticing that a lot of posts I personally consider to have spread legs aren't tagged this way. For some posts it may just be that whoever uploaded/tagged the post didn't think of it, but there also seems to be some standards set on the site that may lead to certain kinds of images not being tagged with spread_legs despite it being fairly clear that it's happening in the art

1. First of all, the wiki page for spread_legs states that it's "usually" when lying down, sitting or during sex. But I think this leads to neglect of a lot of art where the subject spreads their legs but may be standing, squatting or even bending over in some cases. Some examples:

- the subject in post #7230839 is in a standing split and the post is tagged with spread_legs, yet the subject in post #8122653 is in a very similar pose but hasn't been tagged with spread_legs

- the subject in post #7437348 is squatting with their legs spread and the post is tagged with spread_legs, but the subject in post #5989092 is also squatting with their legs spread but hasn't been tagged with spread_legs

- In both post #3900955 and post #3906976 the subject is seemingly bending over and spreading their legs by way of lifting one leg into their or behind their back, but neither post is tagged with spread_legs

2. On the topic of my first bullet point in the previous section, standing_split seems to imply spread_legs. topic #12996 rejected the implication of split -> spread_legs, and the reasoning for the rejection even mentioned standing splits as a counter-example, but the argument was purely based on the "current definition" of spread_legs. I think this reinforces my argument that the verbiage in the spread_legs wiki page should change. I've yet to see a standing split post I wouldn't consider to be spread legs, because in all art I've seen the subject is physically spreading their legs by stretching one leg vertically into the air.

3. Furthermore, how wide should a person's legs be spread to be considered "spread wide apart" to match the definition on the wiki? And if we already have a tag for wide spread legs, why include "spread wide apart" in the spread_legs definition in the first place?

For example, post #3671283, post #8838146, and post #6364756 are all tagged with spread_legs, but it seems pretty subjective to say that they're "spread wide apart."

Yet post #7396350, post #5944959, post #5873922, and post #2789782 all have subjects with their legs spread just as wide or wider than the subjects in the previous three examples, but aren't tagged with spread_legs.

I suggest that we remove "spread wide apart" from the the definition of spread_legs to acknowledge that not all posts tagged with spread_legs may be considered wide spread legs. I also recommend changing the verbiage in "Usually this is while lying down, sitting, or during sex" to use "commonly" instead of "usually." The verbiage "usually" feels somewhat prescriptive and restricting, while something like "This commonly includes" feels more descriptive and open-ended.

In order to add some more specificity to the definition, I think adding something along the lines of "a person spreading their legs more than in a neutral position" may be helpful?
