create alias suzuki_masaru_(2nd_costume) -> suzuki_masaru_(summer)
create alias suzuki_masaru_(3rd_costume) -> suzuki_masaru_(school_uniform)
create alias suzuki_masaru_(4th_costume) -> suzuki_masaru_(spring)
create alias suzuki_masaru_(5th_costume) -> suzuki_masaru_(ruko)
create alias suzuki_masaru_(6th_costume) -> suzuki_masaru_(50k)
create alias suzuki_masaru_(7th_costume) -> suzuki_masaru_(pajamas)

Aliasing Suzuki Masaru's costumes to their names.

For the 5th costume I think maybe using "Ruko" as a name might work better then "Crossdress", idk using crossdress as a costume tag doesn't sound right to me

create alias roboco-san_(sweater_dress) -> roboco-san_(oversized_outerwear)

After god knows how long, we finally have a new hololive Closet drop. Let's go over the meatiest part first.

Sakura Miko (School Uniform), Hoshimachi Suisei (School Uniform), Nekomata Okayu (Casual), Shirogane Noel (School Uniform), and Hakui Koyori (School Uniform) got dubbed "Sailor Uniform" [セーラー服], "Sailor" [セーラー], "Uniform" [むざカチュ制服], "Uniform" [制服] and "Sailor Uniform" [制服セーラー] respectively... talk about overcomplicating things (especially when remembering Omaru Polka (School Uniform) is "Schoolgirl", or more specifically "Gyaru" [ギャル制服]), and begs the question on the use of "Sailor" [セーラー] for Minato Aqua (Sailor). It seems they maintain a distinction between casual sailor and school sailor, which is why each of those Japanese names for "(Sailor) Uniform" got simplified down, but this also seems to imply that Suisei is not in fact intended to be wearing a school uniform there. I'm going to tentatively switch Suisei over to reflect this. For the school uniforms meanwhile, I'm shocked Okayu's apparently a school uniform (a "むざカチュ制服", Muzakachu uniform... do any Okayu fans know what this means?), and attempting to research that revealed something horrifying to me (the next BUR will be about this). In the meantime, also tentatively switching. The rest though I'm keeping with (school_uniform) just because it makes sense. Will add an alias for Polka though.

Roboco-san (Sweater dress) is apparently "oversized outerwear" (オーバーサイズアウター)... okay. Akai Haato (Casual) is apparently "loungewear" (部屋着)... fine. Yuzuki Choco (Nurse) was thankfully spot-on. Shiranui Flare (Fall/Winter), right after we managed to give it a proper name... got "hoodie" (パーカー)... fuck me. Momosuzu Nene (5th Costume) finally has a name in "Jiang Shi-style" (キョンシー風). forum #358290 should say everything about my opinion on the apparent inconsistency of '風' in translations, so executive decision here, just Jiangshi, one word, with a China Dress utility alias. And that should be it.

BUR #44724 is pending approval.

create alias oozora_subaru_(work) -> oozora_subaru_(suspenders)
create alias tokino_sora_(streetwear) -> tokino_sora_(hoodie)
create alias roboco-san_(workoutwear) -> roboco-san_(open_pink_hoodie)
create alias omaru_polka_(street_casual) -> omaru_polka_(casual)
create alias shirakami_fubuki_(aristocrat_kei) -> shirakami_fubuki_(parade_dress)
create alias ookami_mio_(casual) -> ookami_mio_(hoodie)
create alias tokoyami_towa_(school_uniform) -> tokoyami_towa_(underworld_uniform)

But now the horrifying discovery - searching Okayu's むざカチュ制服 revealed to me that, beneath our noses this entire time, the "hololive friends with u" series of plushes also has alt costumes. So join me as I have to catalogue these too.

Starting with Vol. 11, released April 2024, they began releasing plushes with alt costumes. That specific volume features Hoshimachi Suisei (Casual), Aki Rosenthal (Gaming Casual), and Himemori Luna (Sundress), everything consistent so far... but also Oozora Subaru (Work) with the name 'suspenders' (サスペンダー). Vol. 12 has Minato Aqua (Sailor), Nekomata Okayu (School Uniform), and Inugami Korone (Street)... but also Tokino Sora (Streetwear) as 'hoodie' (パーカー). Vol. 13 has Usada Pekora (Casual), Houshou Marine (Businesswoman), and Momosuzu Nene (Casual)... but also Roboco-san (Workoutwear) as 'open pink hoodie' (着崩しピンクパーカー) and Shishiro Botan (Casual) as fucking 'midnight convenience store' (深夜コンビニ). I hope you can all understand why I'm not going with the latter. Vol. 14 has Sakura Miko (Casual), Yukihana Lamy (Casual), Takane Lui (Casual), and also the same name for Hakui Koyori (Summer) as mentioned in forum #285575... but also Omaru Polka (Street Casual) as just 'Casual' [私服]. Vol. 15 is just ReGLOSS. Vol. 16 is just Advent. Vol. 17 has Murasaki Shion (School Uniform) as 'Uniform' (制服風), Shiranui Flare (Street), Shirogane Noel (Casual), Tsunomaki Watame (Street Casual) (though reminder it's rendered as 'Casual Street'/私服おでかけ), and Kazama Iroha (Street), so nothing new this volume! Vol. 18 is literally just Harusaki Nodoka. Vol. 19 has Nakiri Ayame (Girly), Amane Kanata (Work), and La+ Darknesss (Casual)... but also Natsuiro Matsuri (Street Casual) as 'semi-formal' (セットアップ私服) and Yuzuki Choco (Streetwear) as 'secret day off' (お忍び). I'll leave those off for debate purposes. Vol. 20 is just Justice. And the most recent at the time of writing, Vol. 21, consists of AZKi (Dress) and Akai Haato (Gothic Lolita) (another right guess!)... but also Shirakami Fubuki (Aristocrat Kei) as 'parade dress' (洋風), Ookami Mio (Casual) as 'hoodie' (パーカー), and Tokoyami Towa (School Uniform) as 'underworld uniform' (魔界制服).

The things we do for correctness...

Since Rodent somehow forgot about Silvervale's default that she got in 2022, we've got to add her back in line. The current qualifier it has is not good for multiple reasons: firstly, Wolf Onesie, Nurse, Corrupted Raven and Christmas 2022 were all costumes she got in 2022, so a (2022) qualifier is ambiguous; secondly, even if we were to argue it wasn't so that the year itself could be used for defaults, I'd argue that only makes sense if that default was only used that year, meanwhile this has been her default since, meaning it's going on three years now. So we have to change it.

create alias silvervale_(2022) -> silvervale_(silver_3.0)
create alias silvervale_(4th_costume) -> silvervale_(silver_2.0)

Silvervale's 2022 outfit is her current default, so I think until it gets a more official name calling it 2.0 makes sense

But if you look at her wiki, it says that her 4th costume is her 2.0 model (though of course one can and should beg the question on whether it's ever been referred to like that - because as I keep saying, the names given in the wikis suck).

Updated the BUR. As for the qualifier name I figured _(n.0) qualifiers were what we typically went with for "new default" costumes, if anyone has a better idea I'm fine rolling with that one instead

Yes, but also no. The (n.0) have been largely pushed by Rodent from forum #264910, on the basis of them being used by the VTubers in question, after first using it in forum #248485. Whether or not these are the case, he hasn't provided sources for, and their use have caused some problems, like how the use for it in Mint Fantome (Minto 2.0) directly runs against Mint's own wording, as she decided to use the numbering in a company style (so the tag which is '2.0' accounts for her 2.0 and her 3.0, which is an updated 2.0). More crucially though, if you look at the contexts in which these tags are used, the vast majority are used for VTubers who literally only have two costume tags, their (old_design)/(nickname_1.0) and (1st_costume)/(nickname_2.0), the context makes their use quite cleanly. Contrast that with Rinkou Ashelia (Lia 3.0), which by your logic would be a default, but it isn't. If what you said back in forum #350256 was true, then that's the legitimate name, and that by itself means we cannot use (n.0) for defaults as it clearly shows a scenario where that is used for non-defaults.

In all fairness I initially proposed (tenshi_kaiwai) for Lia's outfit, and as I said in forum #350275 I added BURs for both to see which qualifier people preferred more. That being said what would would be a good replacement? (Nth_default) could work since vtubers changing their default model isn't as common as merely debuting a new outfit, so it's not as likely to suffer the same problems that (Nth_costume) qualifiers are (especially since both are intended as placeholders anyways).

Well, one of the main issues is how we'd reconcile it with the current usage of (old_design). With the exception of forum #323349, (old_design) is mutually exclusive with (1st_costume), and the former comes before the latter organizationally, so if we're dealing with the renamed (old_design) tags, we also have to deal with the renamed (1st_costume) tags.

That brings up back to the main reason we've avoided dealing with the issue of defaults, the variability of the 1st costume: as I noted in forum #341626, "while default = original = regular = etc aligns for some VTubers, it doesn't for others. You can't use "original" for VTubers with (old_design) costume tags like Suisei, etc., you can't use [just] "default" for VTubers who have changed defaults after getting a significant surplus of costumes such as AZKi, some Niji and VSPO VTubers, and even then using "default" means that we'd be forced to do upkeep if they switch to a new default, so there's no one good alternative for (1st_costume)." This ends up applying to any additional defaults a VTuber might theoretically get too, and not just that, but situations where they decide a costume they had already gotten would be their new default. (nth_default) would not be helpful at all because, just like the arguments against (nth_costume), you're forcing people to think and check whether it is the correct costume. It'd be a meaningless change.

So, ultimately, doing anything to address the defaults would require establishing a proper naming scheme that accounts for the above situations in a consistent fashion (and also addresses the fact that the (nth_costume) format did not appear from thin air, it is quite literally Nanashi Inc.'s standard, so to a degree that format is not as placeholdery as some would argue), and so far, no one has been willing to try and figure that out. It's just easier to figure things out for the non-defaults instead, you get more progress done as long as you're willing to think beyond "wiki claims this, must be right then".
