This should really be split up into multiple BURs.
I thought splitting it into letters would be enough - I don't want to remove any useful ones, and the plan was to remove from the BUR any that someone would consider potentially useful. I just wanted to clean up some oldbooru aliases + utility aliases that are useless now because of the fuzzy autocomplete.
[...]but rather just convenient redirects for other spellings/misunderstood versions of a tag name (e.g. people might not normally type "band-aid" with a hyphen).
Such aliases are not useful nowadays, because of the fuzzy autocomplete.

That's not true. You can't get armband in the autocomplete now if you type arm_band because there's no alias. You're also not supposed to edit BURs after a bunch of people voted on it already. And you still have yet to give reasons as to how these get in the way of current autocomplete.

Not even close. There's a bunch of lines that aren't related to each other here and because I don't like some of these changes and don't see how they improve autocomplete, I can't like the whole thing. Furthermore, like mentioned above, I also don't like when BURs are edited that change the substance of the update request and effectively invalidate my vote since you're not fixing a spelling mistake or incorrect syntax, so that further reinforces my downvote.
The point of this topic is to remove old aliases that interfere with more common autocompletes. Virtually none of these, including some of the other ones you made (which I would've downvoted if I was more aware during my forum read-throughs), are interfering with anything, you're just asking for them to be removed based on some arbitrary determination of "usefulness".
And like WRS said, unless you can actually show common instances where these aliases interfere with autocomplete for common(-ish) tags, they shouldn't be removed just because they're old.
I don't understand why a bunch of these BURs went through so fast that people didn't even have time to really discuss them.
It's easier to just do it and add the ones we need back later than to quibble over every last one, especially when I have 300+ other BURs on the docket.
In general, I think aliases for compound words like arm band -> armband and bike suit -> bikesuit are useful for when you search for only one part of the word. Otherwise I think getting rid of useless aliases is a good thing, we have a ton of old junk aliases that just create clutter in places like wiki pages.
Mentioned it already but since bandaid* tags are pretty much all singular it doesn't seem unreasonable that someone would try to type this instead. It also seems backwards that we have to request these aliases to be added back after someone asked to remove them without evaluating how useful they are themselves first. It's more work instead of less compared to if these dealias BURs had been done properly from the beginning.
Damn, didn't think this was gonna be so divisive. I have a few thoughts beyond what evazion has already said:

Just say which ones you dislike and I remove them. If some useful ones slip through they can be added later. Note that I'm not shotgunning every single alias, just those that feel (and probably are) incredibly redundant.

My edit consisted in removing a single dealias that others didn't want to lose. I edited the BUR post accordingly to notify the removal of said dealias. How does that "change the substance of the update request"? What else was I supposed to do, leave it like that and have it fail, or have it risk being approved with that dealias inside?

Can this be just chalked up to a personal want to have things clean and tidy? Some of these were entirely redundant and didn't even show up in the autocomplete. Do we really need both cord and cords aliased to cable, when the plural version (cables) is already aliased? Or aliases like bent-over -> bent_over? If the need arises they can be aliased again.
I don't think you understand me. It's not about me pointing out your poor thinking process in arbitrarily deciding what to BUR up and me simply going "I don't think this is good" and you removing it. The onus is on you for using your brain more efficiently, and I fundamentally disagree with upvoting a BUR after it has been edited. I don't care whether it's more right or not, objectively or by consensus, after the fact. Spray and pray mega BURs like this that tackle a bunch of unrelated lines all at once are horrible.
Now that you're submitting another one, it's become apparent that you're taking advantage of evazion just quickly accepting them to continue shoveling a bunch of shitty dealiases without even bothering to consider any of the reasons why people had been disagreeing with you. It's completely and utterly tone deaf, and I'm disappointed these are even getting accepted at all.
It's ridiculous that bad BURs like this are simply quickly accepted because we shouldn't "quibble" over one user's lack of thinking in something this important that affects the site search and users' ability to find tags through autocomplete as demonstrated by the few that had to be reverted, while more clearer ones like implicated character tags get left in limbo for no discernible reason; and it's even more ridiculous to watch someone in real time exploit that and continue lobbing out bad mega BURs instead of separating them by topic and providing an actual reason for the dealiases where it either conflicts in search or is genuinely not a useful alias.
"Remove it all and alias it later I guess" is ass-backwards thinking and I'll never get how it can fly here and actually better BURs get killed.

That's not even what this thread is for, it's in the title.
