I have to admit, I was sceptical myself before uploading as there are plenty of visual AI symptoms.
Sure enough, as I kind of expected, I got a sceptical pm from an approver (@Veraducks) shortly after posting.

However, looking further at their Pixiv profile, they have some older works and sketches consistent with their evolution in artstyle, which were allegedly drawn in 2020:

None of their works are tagged as AI-generated on there either. Though that doesn't necessarily mean they aren't, I found no further signs of AI usage on their profile or Twitter, so I proceeded with the uploads.

I did run the posts through some page-one-on-Google AI checkers, but I also ran some other images through them which I know are not AI which gave false positives, so I am not sure if they are trustworthy.

As I like to go by 'innocent until proven guilty', does anyone care to assist in my investigation? Is this good faith and just unfortunately similar to the AI standard, or an elaborate hoax which I fell for?

It appears very strongly that specialhanako is using AI. Likely they generate AI images, downscale, discretize the palette, and do some light manual editing on top.

This is hard to argument. AI-gens traced into pixel art are effectively impossible to prove for sure. But everything about the composition, proportions and lighting decisions seems similar to AI outputs to me. On top of that, clothes and hair are over-rendered like hell, especially by pixel art standards. There's just no way they'd be able to post almost-every-other-day at such level of detail if they worked manually. In some of their earlier posts this is particularly pronounced:

All in all, I think this artist should be mass-tagged ai-assisted. Would appreciate if someone threw in their opinion on this too.

Mentioned it before, but probably. All of their work looks AI-generated and then heavily scaled down and traced into pixel art. The thumbnails give off that vibe, but up close it's hard to see any abnormalities.

This artist has sockpuppets. A sockpuppet was marked as AI generated.
But they have proof
I think they're just AI-assisted
