This should be an alias, not a rename, so that people who type their old artist name get redirected to the current tag. This artist tag also has less than 200 posts so you should be able to approve your own BUR in topic #33148.

Isn't it still a variant to just put the old name to the "Other names" section?

Aliases are preferred over renames for the reason stated by nsmrtmr1. You can find this in the third point of the Guidelines for requests in forum #46810.
