Does translating posts with translation request tagged count towards builder?
Yes.

Yes.
Alright great thanks for the reply
For the record, translations should be good and human-made. If you aren't able to translate on your own, you also cannot confidently verify the output of machine translations. I feel the need to point this out as this does go wrong quite regularly. You can see howto:translate for more details on translations in general, and the #translations channel on the Discord is very helpful too.

BRING BACK THE FUCKING UPGRADE ALREADY, JESUS CHRIST
I LITERALLY WANT TO GIVE YOU MONEY.
Not their fault, payment processors banned them for the adult content the site hosts, so they can't process any payments for memberships. Did you not read the first page of the thread?

The good thing about translations is that there's endless demand, but finding things you actually want to translate can be a pain as a regular user. translation request and -comic already take up both search slots, so you can't filter out Korean/Chinese commentary if you only speak Japanese, only translating posts with certain tags is rough, etc. It definitely seems doable, though, based on the number of works tagged with translation request alone.

If you're looking to translate commentaries specifically I would recommend searching directly through the artist commentaries page. I also put in a bunch of regex nonsense etc at help:commentary searches if you're feeling bold—the regex/text matches don't count against the tag search limit, so if you swap out korean commentary for a regular expression looking for commentary with Korean characters in it you now have an extra tag freed up.
And if you just want busywork there are soooo many posts with commentary missing both the commentary and commentary request tags, not to mention the amount of untranslatable commentary posts missing that tag (there's a regex search on the aforementioned help page that catches a lot of the qualifying posts!)

Not really, for the most part I only translate commentary when I see it below a translation request post. My comment above was more so referencing the fact that posts with Korean and Chinese commentary are much less likely to contain Japanese text in the image, so they might as well be filtered out when searching for posts to translate (which isn't possible with a tag limit of 2). But the regex searches look quite fascinating, I had been wondering if searches like that were possible!
It's always a bit hard to quantify how much people actually pay attention to the commentary. Would rather not waste time on translations no one will ever look at lol. It's the main reason I myself haven't been doing a whole lot of them.

Need to point out that translation request refers to text in the image itself, not the commentary. Commentary request is the request tag for commentaries.

I think they're just saying they'll translate the commentary if the translation request post happens to have it, but they won't go out of their way to translate the commentary on other posts.

Ah, I see that now; misunderstood them
Holy shit man please hurry up and fix this. Just suck it up and implement crypto or something. People are literally begging to give this site money because nobody is trying to go through the absolute SLOG that it is to get promoted to builder. 4chan found a solution to this immediately i refuse to believe that 4 years have gone by with not one reasonable remedy being found. I will literally send physical money in an envelope if you make it a payment method just take my fucking money PLEASE.
Honestly, it's pretty clear that the site admins just don't want to fix it at this point.
I've heard the payment processor argument, but that is only partially valid. There are payment processors who still allow adult material, including hentai. CCBill and Segpay are two off the top of my head. The admins could fix this any time they wanted by using those payment processors, but they choose not to. Why? Who the hell knows.
The admins have no control over this. The only one who can decide is the site owner.
I do wish we had something other than radio silence for the past four years, but since the financial support of the site is solely from him, I don't know how much he could actually divulge without making it too personal.

What was his actual most recent statement on the matter?
