Questions About Uploading Galgame CG

Posted under General

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I noticed a while ago that there are relatively few Galgame CGs on the site. I'm planning to upload some datamined CGs that I think are good.

Before I start, I'd like to confirm a few things:

Rule restrictions: Are there any specific restrictions on uploading datamined Galgame CGs? I noticed that even well-known developers have very few CGs on the site.

Variant images: Galgame CGs often have a large number of variants. To avoid flooding, I plan to pick only 1 image per scene. Is this acceptable? I noticed that under tags like game_asset, posts with lots of variants tend to look cluttered.

My goal: To be upfront — my primary motivation for uploading and properly tagging these is to eventually earn Builder-level access. Is this a viable path? Roughly how long would it take?

No, there are no rules specifically for galge CGs. One factor you have to consider is that your game's illustrator might potentially be a banned artist, which means that your posts will not be visible to the vast majority of users, but uploading them is still fine.

A lot of games have never had CGs posted due to a lack of interest and the sheer quantity of games that were being released during the peak galge era (2000-2015, some might argue otherwise but that's the general time frame I'd give it)

I personally think you can easily post at least 5-9 variations per CG, depending on how much visual variation is actually available. Just don't post 50 CGs of slightly variable eyebrow/mouth positions.

It's a very viable path and I've personally found it odd how many visually stunning games simply never have their CGs posted here. Potentially because of the tedium involved in tagging each individual post and because the demographic of people "in the know" simply goes to e-hentai for galleries.

When I first joined the website, I considered uploading event CGs from some of my favorite games, but the strong opposition to second-party source and non-web source on that version of Uploading Guidelines made me hesitate (at that time, the tag self-datamine didn't exist yet). Considering the nature of these game CGs, it was impossible to obtain any official or reliable online sources, which led me to give up.

Seems like the sourcing requirements have changed a bit recently.

Second-party sources for game CGs are official sources. Did you mean third-party source?

And users have been uploading self-datamined assets for years without issue. We just didn't have a dedicated tag for it until a few months ago.

Thank you very much!
