Crack Pairing

Posted under Tags

I think pairing tags themselves such as enemies to lovers get into the weeds of subjectivity too much to be useful. How long does someone have to be an enemy to constitute a romantic relationship with them as a enemy-to-lover? Is Sasuke/Naruto enemies to lovers because they fought one time? (I've never seen Naruto. I'm being disingenuous like any other user browsing the site might be.) And actually typing that reminded me, how would people who've never seen the copyright and just dump all art of X gender configuration apply this? It'd have to be gardened in by one or two people who love it, which is subject to abuse.

And finally, something like post #11378459 where the pairing itself does not make any sort of sense could also work as a tag imo. Basically completely nonsensical shipping. Maybe nonsensical relationship? nonsensical couple, nonsensical pairing?

This one I agree with. What about anachronistic relationship? To go with anachronism.

I'd say the tag we'd make would have to be only for enemies that were never anything else, like goku/friezer or Gojo Satoru/Geto Suguru (Kenjaku). True utter enemies where the concept itself of love is completely absurd and out of character.

The general concept of crack ships is unusable as a tag, yeah, but I think enemies to lovers could work as a tag, for romantic/sexual depictions of characters that canonically hate each other (harry & voldemort, Ryoumen Sukuna & Gojo Satoru)... As long as it's not rape though.

The problem is that such a name would suggest that the tag can also be used for original depictions of characters going through that process, so IDK about the name.

I suppose a tag for "characters that have never ever interacted in the same show being depicted as lovers for no reason" is also objective, but no idea what that could be called.

Instead of focusing on perceived nonsensical status, since anything like that would probably fall victim to the same misuse, why not a crossover shipping tag like we have oc x canon?

BUR #60857 is pending approval.

mass update pool:1499 crossover -> crossover_couple

I think we can probably at least spawn this tag into existence whilst the other ideas like enemies to lovers might need more time to boil. The pool as a whole can be left alone (for now...).

I don't think it should imply couple as couple requires mutual romantic affection. People searching for crossover couple probably wouldn't care for the specifics we have for our couple tag. That could be a problem with the name I guess.

This would be called Foe Yay in TV Tropes terms and I can't think of a good tag name that would fit your definiton.

That works very well. It's entirely objective and takes the best parts of both the Unlikely couples and unlikely crossovers pools without the subjectivity of both.
