Multiple translations of this tweet by the official Japanese Xenoblade Twitter Account: https://x.com/XenobladeJP/status/2064364104899494196 (several which can be found in the quotes replies) has revealed the protagonist's name to be Eleanor which can be narrowed down to be talking about her, the pink hair elf girl, by her being the only woman in the tweet's pictures (4 appearances) and taking context from the trailer.

While renaming would be preferred, I don't think this knowledge is well known enough yet to warrant the outright replacement of the generic protagonist tag.

names in Japan generally tend to be different in English when it comes to Xenoblade. take Poppi being Hana in Japanese.

it wouldn't be bad for a temporary thing, but it was almost be a fact that it be temporary until the English names come out.

also, whenever we do get the official English name, or we decide to change it to Eleanor, the qualifier is usually just *_(xenoblade) for Xenoblade characters.

They've been moving away from that. In Xenoblade 3, the core cast and most of the Kevesi characters had the same names across languages, while a number of the Agnian characters who had their names changed had Japanese-sounding names originally. I'd say it's fairly likely that Eleanor's name will stay.

Technically, it's not 100% confirmed that her name is Eleanor, but it's not 100% confirmed that she's the protagonist either.

That's right.

Still, there's the chance that her name turns out to be different, and it wouldn't surprise me if her name is Eleanor but spelled weirdly for no particular reason, and we'll probably (hopefully) get an official name before too long anyway.
