I'll go with this redefinition, but it will take some time for me to absorb. Wikipedia does suggest that this "pistol" distinction is used in some parts of the USA, but that does not in and of itself invalidate concepts from elsewhere around the world.

Funny that he comes up. His oversized revolver really is just a...well, it's called "Grand Magnum" from what I recall. It actually has a normal human-sized pistol grip. Does that matter here?

Perhaps not. I hadn't been keeping on top of forum posts and so it's only my fault that it seemed like a quick decision.
As I said, I'll deal.
EDIT: Actually, I'm kinda dumbstruck wondering how much work would be involved in retagging all those handgun images formerly tagged semiautomatic. Would it be reasonable to implicate various well-known handgun models to the "pistol" tag? You know: desert_eagle, beretta_92, glock, m1911, luger_p08, mauser_c96 walther_ppk etc.? That would cut down significantly on the time.

That would be great and really helpful. Most of the pistols tagged on Danbooru are on the list of weapons.
Right, good to know. So does someone just use the regular procedure of proposing each tag implication on this forum?
ADDENDUM: first comment after checking the pistol roster - I won't seek to implicate "Sig_Sauer" to "pistol" due to the fairly well-known SG-550 series of assault rifles.

Scripts made me nervous in the DOS days, so I would be very afraid of wrecking something big here, on this site that I have come to love... Nevertheless, I have been trying to find documentation on scripts from the overall Danbooru menu and so far can't find what I'm looking for. I know Mass Edit is not available to me.
[if Beretta_92 or Beretta_93r or Beretta_model_70 or Beretta_Px4 or Browning_HP or Desert_Eagle or five-seven_(gun) or fn_1903 Glock or vp70 or Luger_p08 or M1911 or Mauser_C96 or nambu_type_14 or Makarov_pm or Sig_Sauer or Tokarev_TT-33 or USP_Tactical or Walther_P38 or Walther_p5 or Walther_p99 or Walther_ppk, pistol]
EDIT: Nope. I'm lost. I've even tried a simple [if m1911, pistol] on a picture that had the m1911 tag, and it didn't work either.

That's not quite what I (we?) wanted - to add the tag only to the posts that already have one or more of the tags present in the wiki entry. The rest would be done individually as you usually can't guess the model or even the type from the thumbnails. I thought that would be possible with the use of the correct script.
EDIT: Disregard that, I already started and it goes reasonably well.
Heparine, can you tell us which pistol models have had your pistol implication script successfully applied? I was just scanning "m1911" and found that some of them had "pistol" but not all - or at least until I added it manually.
None, actually. It didn't work, as I stated before. I started applying the tag the good 'ole way, running a "handgun -pistol" search and using a simple "pistol" script on them, oldest to newest, also checking most of the pictures for models etc. It's slow and fairly tiring, so I'm taking my time (about 40% done by now), but the results look good.
